Axing the Reading Tax - The Publishers Association
On behalf of our client, The Publishers Association, we ran the ‘Axe the Reading Tax’ campaign which successfully campaigned to have VAT abolished on e-publications in the 2020 Budget.
Our campaign used a variety of creative and traditional tactics, including:
A Parliamentary ‘drop in’ event leading to gaining 150 parliamentary supporters
A photo opportunity No10 with leading author and TV personality Konnie Huq
An open letter from 700 authors including Stephen Fry, Bernadine Evaristo, Cressida Cowell, Joanne Harris and Val McDermid which led to coverage in The Sunday Times, BBC Radio 5 Live and The Sun on Sunday
Identifying parliamentary champions in Robert Halfon MP and Rob Roberts MP who led the campaign in Parliament
Forming a wider coalition of supporters including the RNIB to highlight the impact of the tax on blind and visually impaired people.
Our partnership with The Publishers Association was awarded the ‘Best In-House Consultancy Collaboration’ at the 2020 PRCA Public Affairs Awards.
“Tendo know how to build a coalition of support from the grassroots all the way to Westminster, using both modern digital media and state of the art networking and campaigning”
